比较文学 is the study of 文学 across 语言, 文化, 时间, and genres as well as the study of the relationship between 文学 and other fields of knowledge. An essential feature of such study is the reading of texts in their original language(s) of composition. The study of 比较文学 promotes an understanding of intercultural or cross-cultural relations and helps to foster a more international or cosmopolitan perspective of both 文学 and the world and, 反过来, 属于自己的文学和文化的.
